What FreeSign deliberately isn't
FreeSign is not a document editor. There is no form builder, no template library, no in-document commenting or redlining — and that is on purpose. Prepare your document in whatever you already use (Word, Google Docs, your DMS, LaTeX) and bring the finished PDF. FreeSign does exactly one thing: turn that PDF into verifiable, independently-checkable proof that it was signed. We never make you move your work into our tool to sign it.
There are also no signing workflows in the free tier — no server-side routing queue, reminders or approval chains. That is a direct consequence of the privacy model: your PDF never reaches our servers, so there is nothing here to route documents through. Enterprise adds workflow, reminders and SMS verification for organizations where hosting the document is an acceptable trade-off.
Why is the free tier this complete?
FreeSign is a signing primitive, not a hosted document vault, and it has no user accounts. Per-seat pricing exists at other vendors because they run a multi-tenant app around your documents — we don't. The cryptography — HSM-backed certificates, RFC 3161 timestamps, blockchain anchoring, a tamper-evident audit trail — costs the same whether one person or a thousand use it, and your PDF never touches our servers, so there is nothing to meter: no seats, no envelopes, no monthly caps. The free product stays free; a paid tier will never retroactively take anything out of it.
Enterprise is a different shape of need: organizational trust (the Adobe green check, your own certificate authority, QES), workflow (routing, reminders, SMS verification), and integration & scale (SSO, webhooks, SLAs, data residency, on-prem). Those are the things worth a conversation.
